Community Outreach

The Nafsi-Africa Acrobats outreach project started in 2006 with volunteers who, on occasion, would teach impoverished youth different types of acrobatics. Eventually, between tour performances in Europe, the volunteers also started to organize feeding programs where they would go into these underdeveloped communities and feed the youth. In 2011 both of these activities became the foundation of this organization when Nafsi was officially started with the help of Italian friends.

Nafsi activities are based on work with the children and youths in the slums within Nairobi, where many children look to the streets for various reasons like; abuse from the parents / guardians, lack of enrollment in schools, antisocial practices (drug abuse, joining bad gangs are involved into crime), lack of food, unemployment of the youths etc.

Nafsi offers different kinds of artistic skills to children and youths through trainings in various schools, centers and open fields. These lessons include: visual arts, motivational speaking, acrobatics, dance, percussion and cultural/contemporary music. Nafsi alsoruns other activities such as art workshops and feeding programs.

The centers, schools and open fields the project has been able to reach out to include:

  • Boma Rescue Center - Dandora
  • Kivuli Center - Kabiria
  • Baba dogo open field - Babadogo
  • K.C.C open field - Kariobangi south
  • Dagoretti Corner primary school – Dagorretti
  • Mlango Kubwa open field – Mlango Kubwa

The project is composed of a network of artists from different background within impoverished areas of Nairobi. The project is funded through Nafsi tour around Europe, well wishers and friends of Nafsi.
